New Textile Art

so dear viewers..

I am in the studio, stitching...

it is so very calming..

and peaceful... and I don't know about you,
but I need peaceful..
calming,
and serene....

each stitch transports me to a sacred place..
where I feel at home and secure...

Tea dyed lace and fabric and old papers..

I am making a mixed media textile art piece... and my plan is to mount them on cradled
boards..

I will be mixing whatever appeals to me to create these new pieces..
and it will be a whole collection..

a new category and gallerie for me..

I dyed the fabric and the lace and since the fabric was a bit short.. I decided to
add to the length..

I adore the wrinkles and subtle marks...
and yes I am using two needles.. don't you do that too?

We will be taking a few days off..

and I will take my stitching with me..

and a few books of course!!

We have needed a break...

thanks as always for stopping by the

Lily Cottage..

we so appreciate each one of you!

Stitching Slowly

Ciao
dear gentle readers...

I have been working on my little brown book

for lack of a better title
it hasn't confided in me it's true name..

so you will have to be a bit patient with me on that

I am also putting a new Flower book together..
but you will have to wait on that..

its a tiny one.. and only about 4 inches fully opened..

and I am working on a new Goddess painting..
Demeter
she is Persephone's Mother

and grieving the loss of her
daughter..

so I have been busy..

between the garden and the studio..
my days are quite full..

I will be back soon with some
photos of my
new Flower Book..

it's a Tiny one too..

Woking in the Studio..

Ciao my dears!

I am working a bit in the studio..

during this weird in between time..

what day is it?

I don't know about you, but we always lose track of days about now..

I am working a bit and reading a lot ..
and Don has been finding movies to watch...

it's important to enjoy holiday time..
we are both believers in the
Slow Movement Culture..
So spending time together and enjoying the time at hand
is important to us...

and I do tend to work ...a lot..

So I have been slowly bringing this little flower book to life..

as well as beginning a new large painting series of

Goddesses

to life as well..

I had at one time been making collages of Goddesses

and had planned to make a card deck with them..

but now, I think I would rather begin

a new series..

so I will have pics soon..

so off to the studio!!

we shall wait patiently for the

New Year!

Circles of Infinity

Ciao my gentle friends..

I have been working in the studio each day..

and this is something that I have been

very slowly working on..

the old spool is a gift from my
dear friend Sarah Fishburn..

So I thought that you might want to see the start of the project..
Into the dye bath

several pieces went and and now I have some
lovely bits to stitch and I love the way they look against the green..

I made the decision to concentrate on circles..
as a way of examining our interconnection not only to each other..
but also to our connection to the infinite..

call it what you will..

I am using silk thread, though it sometimes catches and snarls as I pull it through

the cotton fabric

but that seems a bit like life doesn't it?

and I think of those things as I sew..

I am working the front and the back...

because.. even the back should have a story...

Psyche

Her name is

Psyche..

and

I thought it would be quite difficult to create

a book about a creature representing a

Soul...

but actually
when I saw the below photo of the

shadow of the photographer...

I thought that the shadow was a perfect

idea of the reflection of the person..

the

soul..

the pockets always represent the hidden  parts of us

that we often keep quiet..

 and
then there are the

bits that are the decoration of

personality...

She will be finished soon
to add to my

Art Books gallerie

Slow Stitching on Bleached Fabrics

Today's video is a little slow stitch practice..

I like taking you along as I stitch quite frequently in the studio..

often to simply rest my mind and allow what will be.. be.

The bleached fabric is a nice way to manipulate

the fabric and change it up a little..

Hope you are all well and that you have a glorious weekend!!

Slow Stitch-Small Textiles

Ciao dear ones..

taking a break from the stressful things

that pull at us..

Slow stitching is a great way to bring the volume down..

You might tea dye, or not, but just use the fabrics

you have on hand to make some small textiles..

to explore contrast

and take a few minutes

to simply breathe...

Happy Weekend everyone..

Fabric Book..

combing paper and fabric and bits of ribbons..

with papers and fabrics..

gorgeous covers..

Ciao, dear hearts..

This journal can easily be adapted to use with a

sewing machine

or even just using glue for the collaged cover..

I hope you enjoy it and the next videos

that create the pages, inside covers and some collage..

Khadi Paper String Book

The eternality of the circle shows up
on this page of my
Little Khadi String Book

It's a wabi sabi
circle
and it doesn't care what anyone thinks of it..

Slow Stitching

It isn't trying to be something
that it is not.

What I love about slow stitching
is the serene pause..
as I lift the needle and stop a minute to breathe

Mixd Media, Slow Stitch

and to relax
each minute of breath is filled with
a subtle solitude of connection..

Slow Stitch, Mixed Media

and this connection
hooks me up into
the flow of ideas
that will populate in so many different ways..

what to bake next..
how to finish a project..
what kind of tea to drink..
just simple things
that make up a life.

Mixed Media, Slow Stitch

it is a sweet pause
that at once, creates ideas
and also nurtures rest..

Mixed Media, Slow Stitch

the stitch asks us to allow..
and I capitulate to wherever the needle
wants to travel..

Mixed Media Slow Stitch

I think I will experiment in my studio this week

and we are going to head to the beach one day soon..

have no fear, we have masks and it is not crowded

at this time of year..

I will also try to finish some paintings..

and get some reading finished as well.

Perhaps you have noticed, I have not been able to keep up on

comments and if you choose not to comment

I will completely understand..

But I thank you for every single word.
