Works in Progress

This is one of those
busy weeks in the studio..

I have lots of projects in the works..
and one submission..

but instead of telling you about it..

I thought I would just share some photos..

about what is taking place tabletop...

My excavation series is making progress...

I know, they look like a whole lotta nothing...
until they come together at the end...

and I am working on
a new monoprinting video

that we will film
this week for my YouTube channel

and my May Pages are
in the process of being born..
although a bit painful right now..

and I am getting
these beauties below,
ready to hang and ship
to
142 Bis Gallerie

I always look forward to watching them fly away
to the homes where they belong...

I look forward to inviting you into the studio
this week for a new adventure in
Monoprinting..

and until then,
thank you ever so much for stopping by..

April Art Journal Pages

The garden..
is my one weakness..

ahh.. you know me too well..

ok..
it is
a truly
happy place..
one of several..

as you know dear reader,
I adore
all the mundane chores..
watering, weeding, raking, trimming and planting..

and our spring here was absolutely magnificent...

we had so many blooms..
and the bougainvillea were exceptional..

Caterina Giglio, April Art Journal Pages, The Color of Flowers..

so...
I tried to capture that subtle beauty in my pages for last month..
and I was late, getting these pages to you...
precisely because I was spending so much time
outside..

Sometimes, my friend..
the beauty of this world created just for our pleasure, moves me simply to tears...

I find that beauty, that movement of feeling very hard to express..

As I sorted through my ephemera...
I found a color chart for Flower Colors..
with a corresponding page of the names of the colors, which was pretty charming..
and decided to use that as my background..

The weather changes so quickly here..
last month we had fireflies and crickets and suddenly this month
we have cicada and love bugs..

and if you don't know what love bugs are..
just google it..

suddenly it is summer..
and I will be in the studio more and the garden less..
as the rainy season is upon us..

Ingredients: Acrylic paint, antique and vintage ephemera, tissue papers, wrapping papers, colored pencil.

This week I am working on my new Vlog post..

Why it is OK to be a Scatter Brained Artist...

and I am starting my May pages..
as well as getting a journal ready for submission..

so much to do..
and I love all of it..

life is so amazing..

See you on Friday...

December Journal Pages

Well gentle reader..
as you see,
I did not finish the cover
of my art Journal..

In fact, I am still wrestling with it..

I will finish it by this weekend..
and I will shoot it for YT
so you will see it finally..
and
I will shoot all the pages and put them in a blog post
 listing all the  ingredients
for you as I
always do ...

But this post is about December..
which was just amazing..
one of the best holidays that we have had..

just wonderfully fun, sweet and peaceful...

so my pages reflect that peace
and I was making them as I listened to music..
I grew up with classical music..
my mother taught piano..

so I love music without words

one of my favorite current composers
is
Phillip Glass
and I was listening to
Glassworks
as I made this..

If you are not familiar with his work go listen
on YT
you have surely heard his music on many
films, Kundin, and The Hours
are two of my favorites..

as usual the pages are bricolage..
I had some music wrapping paper
on my desk..
and it was on the page
before I realized what this was all about..

Just following the flow of the music..
listening with the heart..
and opening
to receive whatever my muse has in store for me..

Ingredients: pencil, acrylic paint, glazing medium, wrapping papers, antique paper, walnut ink..

Alrighty then..
I will be back soon..

Thank you so much for all your kind
comments and remarks..

I so appreciate you
all..

My Art Journaling Process- Part 3

Each month I work on my
art journal pages..

for me, it is a spiritual practice,
it is a way of practicing the art of letting go..
surrendering and
releasing my control of the way I want my art to look..
to be..

and allowing the broader aspect of me..

to design,
create,
manifest,

so I gather the materials that appeal to me..
and then listen..
which ones shall I use..?

If I listen...
 it works perfectly..
if I am in control..
it doesn't..

Month in and month out,
I practice..

Thanks for watching..
and have a magnificent weekend..

My Art Journaling Process -Part 2

It took me years...
to put my thoughts on paper..
because...

my Mother read everything..
and no matter what I wrote, it was always
used against me..

So I became an adult who kept it all tight
against my heart..

fortunately..
I had a great therapist...

and even though I am able to now write anything
down..

and I do write it all down..
I document ...
what happens, what doesn't, what I think and feel, I write my dreams and hopes,
and I work out my fears and concerns.. each month..

I obscure the text as a physical process..
a meditative process..

 that focuses
the energy
and allows the images to be revealed to me..

Join me next week and I will
share images and inspirations..

Have a beautiful weekend..
my gentle viewers..

A Year of Art Journaling

Another year has come and gone..
and like many..
I was not sad to say
arrivederci
to
2016

In January
as always..
I created my self portrait,
I was letting the white hair grow in
and I was eager

to start the new year
as always
a new year stretches out
as endless possibilities

In February ..
I wrote my annual love letter to myself..

In March I was beginning to deal with some
health issues
and I realized that I was going thru some
intense metamorphosis
due to the death of my mother in February...

the wings below are tissue paper, hand colored with Inktense pencils and gold leaf...
they are safety pinned to the page
and when you turn the page, they actually

flutter..

There was a lot of chaos..
and dreams going on
grandmother spider came to me in a dream...

and in May
I kept stepping on
scorpions
and when I found the old dictionary page
I used it in the spread..
to remind me to listen to my intuition..

June brought a revelation about
the nature of
Freedom...
this is a 3D page and it is hard to see, but the wings are made of mixed media paper
and they are glued into the center of the book....
the quote is Rumi

"You have escaped the cage, your wings are stretched out...
now fly!"

I often explore the double tree
image in my work, representing partnership..

In August I was doing spiritual work
and recognizing that I was still
working on
my transformation for the year..

balancing both the feminine and the masculine...

September brought more work
this time with family issues
and my role in my family..
it also brought up inner child work..

the images are not me, but represent me in
the past..

October brought relief and a visit from my
sister, it was a joyful visit..

we traveled to Europe
in November,
and arrived home the weekend before
Thanksgiving..

the pages are about my grandmother
and how brave she had to be to come here..
and how dire her situation was to make her
take on such a perilous journey..

how I admire her courage..
and love her so..

December was sweet..
literally, I made cookies and flourless Chocolate cake, coffee cake
and spiced nuts..

but my spread reflects my feelings for the holidays..
all of them..

"Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of Love."

Hamilton Wright Mabi

And now I am beginning my January pages
my self portrait as usual..
and I think I can stuff another year into this journal..

and working on my new series..

the Naturalists' Notebook

I want to thank you all for the wonderful
reception
and all the subscriptions to my
YouTube
channel..
I could not do it without
Mr. La Dolce Vita..
who is my fearless videographer
and iMovie genius..

We have some fun planned so thanks for
stopping by...

August Art Journal Pages and a Fall Break

Summer is definitely at an end...
and
August was a wild month..

another month of
transitions and transformations..
we even had a
hurricane to contend with..
but fortunately it passed over us with
just rain..
and maybe a bit of anxiety...

we had a lot of rain this year..
so
butterfly and dragonfly
were my faithful companions..
so I had to share
them with you
and in my pages..

I learned a lot about both of them
this summer..

as I accept the changes that I make
about myself and what I want to
create
both personally and professionally..

The substrate for the butterfly is white tissue paper
and I treated the back with gel medium,
then I drew the butterfly on the paper with Inktense water color pencils
it worked quite well
and I only wish you could see and feel it in person..

Ingredients: Acrylic paint, Inktense Pencils, pencil, pen and ink on gelli prints, wrapping papers, rub on transfers, transfers on paper, walnut ink. Butterfly in Inktense Watercolor pencils on tissue paper.

and we are off to visit family
so I will take a little blog
break...

as always,
I am grateful for your
readership..
and finding your sweet comments
is my one weakness..

September Journal Pages

We had an unexpected event
last summer that surprised me..

and though I managed to make my way through it

the fear and concern caught up with me in September...

so my pages are about peeling back the layers of thoughts
and the fears to resurface
and find myself surrounded once again in peace...

it was just a monster under the bed...

I literally glued layer after layer of papers and then ripped them back
it was all very cathartic..
and then realized what was bugging me...

ingredients: gesso, papers, antique ephemera, cardboard, acrylic paints, colored pencil, pencil

Looking forward to the cooler temperatures in October..
and creating in the studio with the sliding glass door open to the pool
cage..

what bliss...

As always, I am so grateful to you for your kind readership...
and thank you in advance for stopping by the
"sweet life"..
