Works in Progress

This is one of those
busy weeks in the studio..

I have lots of projects in the works..
and one submission..

but instead of telling you about it..

I thought I would just share some photos..

about what is taking place tabletop...

My excavation series is making progress...

I know, they look like a whole lotta nothing...
until they come together at the end...

and I am working on
a new monoprinting video

that we will film
this week for my YouTube channel

and my May Pages are
in the process of being born..
although a bit painful right now..

and I am getting
these beauties below,
ready to hang and ship
to
142 Bis Gallerie

I always look forward to watching them fly away
to the homes where they belong...

I look forward to inviting you into the studio
this week for a new adventure in
Monoprinting..

and until then,
thank you ever so much for stopping by..

Ciao, ciao!

Monoprints, Monotypes and a Bad Studio Day

Everyone has bad days at work..
but this year I decided to share them with you..
gentle reader,

in speaking to other artists,
I have found that there is a common perception
that people share concerning art and artists..
that our work isn't really work..
that we have fun all day..
and that making things is pure joy..

occasionally, it is..
but mostly is is a career like any other..
there are good days and bad days..

I was musing about this the other day when began a series of Monotypes
in the studio last week...
Monoprints and Monotypes are similar in one aspect,
they are pulled off a glass or some other kind of plate and pressure is applied by
hand or brayers to assist in the transfer of the image
applied to the plate.

But Monotypes are created by working off a smooth surface with no markings or indentations..

a small difference,
but
notable
and to be clear, the words have been used interchangeably forever..

often as I pull prints in the studio
I happen across a happy accident
but
on this day, it seemed that the more I worked,
 the worse the images..

So I gave it a rest and worked on my portrait of Ella..
and my flower journal..

The next day I went back to it and used blue acrylic paint to freshen
and change it all up..

But still the images did not meet with my approval..
and clearly
I was not having fun...

so I pulled all the prints together and noticed I had used up an entire ream of paper,
ok...
pad of paper
but it felt like a ream..

Now..

I will find a use for them..
even if I cut them and use them for collage
and I will revisit monotypes..

but not any time soon..

Last year, I would have shoved them in a drawer..
this year, I am sharing them with you
new year,
new insights,
new directions..

Ciao, ciao!

Monoprinting

ciao!

some studio days
are very productive..

even though

I never finish a piece of work...

some days
are all about creating elements

 to use
in my work...

just making a stash of beautiful papers...

to rip up or use whole in
a collage or a painting...

and while I don't really have anything finished..

it still feels great to have
some awesome images to use...

The plate and the print above..

monoprinting
creates basically one print..
from a plate..

in this case I used
 cardboard covered with tin foil..
non stick, for those inquiring minds out there...

to serve as my plate

and I covered them with acrylic paints

using both a pencil and a feather quill
to subtract the paint and
write and indent on the
tin plate

and I used a lot of brown kraft paper
for the first go around..

and finished with

antique book pages..

What I love about monoprinting
is that each print is unique
and totally different..
and you never know what you have until you
lift the print..

Next week I will have
a quick post before we leave on our
great adventure..

thank you as always for
stopping by,
leaving your comments..
and lurking lovingly..

here at the sweet life..
