Art Work Failure

Ciao gentle readers

This has been a very tough month for me..

Don and I have been planning our trip to

Europe in October..

it is a month long trip and there is much to consider.. beyond the

flights, trains and travel detail..

so we had our covid boosters.. and responded as I usually do

with a reaction...

but later I had an intense reaction.

if you are thinking of having the Moderna vaccine,

google moderna Covid 19 vaccine side effects

just an FYI

I have had at least 5 other boosters and none affected me

as this one..

left over bits from my Textile piece..

But the other difficult part of this month is that

I had a failure that I wanted to share.. I don't usually have failures

but this one was spectacular..

I was working on the textile piece and as I was attaching it to

the board to secure it, the papers crumpled as

I pulled it back to edge it..

so above you see the two pieces that I salvaged..

and my intention is to make another work

using those elements.

its devastating to loose all that time and energy..

but

I know now what

WON'T WORK!!

Pinks in the Garden

Pinks in the Garden

is one of the pieces that I have created on Mixed Media paper..

it features

an antique wax seal and ribbons...

and the papers are antique..

this piece also features
antique book parts..
and pieces...

I have a love of using realistic images and mixing them in an

abstract way that tells a tiny story..

The pinks all have their own..

thanks gentle readers for stopping by

and reading my simple thoughts..

if you would like to see this piece..

if you have ever been hiking and come upon a a beautiful
spray of wild flowers

then you will understand the power of this piece.. all the
other color seems to support this
on shocking display...
it stands out and says..
I am here!!

and it makes your heart sing...

Detail from Violets in the Garden

Wild violets grow all over the East coast..

and they are charming

they represent a pledge of Faithfulness..

I used antique papers, ephemera and dyed paper to

create this work..

Slow Stitching

Well, gentle readers..
I took a few photos of the pieces
that I am still working on for
my
Slow Stitch String Book

Slow Stitching
Black Bean dyed cotton with bleached and over dyed sari silk.

which we will make on the next video..

Slow Stitching
Tea dyed and stitched cotton textile

one more video and then we are taking our summer
vacation..

Slow Stitching
Tea dyed Khadi paper stitched with mono printed fabric

Slow Stitching

We had planned a trip to visit family to celebrate a birthday,
but that was cancelled..
due to Covid..
so very much has changed..

but stitching hasn't changed..
I can still rely on it
for it's curative
repairs..

Slow Stitching
Caterina Giglio, mixed media, slow stitching.

stitching,

centers me..

as the needle marries paper and fabrics..

creating a path all its own.

moving gently on ..

with no concern of where that pathway leads..

 the piece,

or me..

I loose my attachments and just focus on this

present moment..

my breath, a sip of tea..

and I make space for the

the wonky and wabi sabi..

in myself and in my work.

Slow Stitching

A little string book will be perfect for imperfect pages

and will allow them to be worked on

time and time again..

See you next week
my dear readers..
be well and as always,
thank you..

Ciao, Ciao!

Part 2 Collage with Paper

Well...
I have to say it is very interesting making demos
on video
and
trying to make decisions quickly
about
what elements I want to use..

I had a rough idea
and
thought I would use
butterflies on each piece..

but changed my mind as I saw how the last piece
on book cover
was turning out..
(oops spoiler alert!!)

Enjoy the video
I am now at work thinking about
Part 3..
and
I am
wishing you all a magnificent
weekend..

November Journal Pages

November was really amazing...

for so many reasons..

we had a lovely
European adventure
and enjoyed each and every minute
in London...

more photos will come to show you the sights we saw..
and the things and people we met...

but first things first..
I really had to get November Pages
out to you, as I am late.. due to travel of course..

When we left Southampton,
we journeyed by ship to Boston..

and there was a terrific storm in the pond as they say..
so we were forced to travel far out of our way..
to escape the terrible waves and wind..

However.. we still felt the impact of the storm..

and for 13 days we had rough seas
and stormy weather..
the best weather was a grey day and choppy seas..

we finally saw sunshine in Boston, though it was very cold..
and then sun shone on us as we neared
our port in Florida..

So I decided to paint my pages this month and to share
the experience..
I am fortunately a good sailor, being married to a Navy Man..
I learned long ago ... that he does love the sea...

Ingredients: Gesso, paint pens, acrylic paint, metallic gelato, colored pencils

Next week, I will continue with the travelogue..
and
hoping that all your
holiday plans
are
Merry and Bright!

Mixed Media Art Journal- Flip Through

Not one!
but two videos for your weekend..
gentle viewers..

The first one is a chatty flip version
in which I explain the whys of the spreads and point out
all the transfers..

I chose this book to share because it was loaded with
transfers and I wanted to show how I use transfers in my work..

My own personal photos are used for the majority of my transfers, but I also use
antique images as well..

The second film is a flip through with close ups from most of the transfers..
we filmed it this morning to show more detail..

Thanks for all your feed back, I so appreciate hearing from you..

and
I am sending my love and prayers to my friends

in the path of
Florence..
my heart goes out to you
as I know what you are going through..

August Art Journal Pages

Her soft eyes were fixed on the distant sea..
staring..
remembering..
meditating..
the business of inner work...

I spent some time in August..
just traveling inward..
reflecting..

August 2018 Journal Pages, Caterina Giglio, Reflection

and looking at my part in the things
that happened some time past..

it is good to contemplate..
to make assessments..
to forgive, release and forget..

if I want to move forward ....

after all..
love is For-getting and love is For-giving

especially concerning oneself...

Love the nothing, flee the self.
Stand alone, Seek help from no one.
Let your being be quiet.
Be free from the  bondage of all things.

Mechtild of Magdeburg

Ingredients: pencil, gesso, gelatin, paper ephemera, acrylic paint, paint pens, pen and ink

Looking forward to
sharing one of my art journals with you
page by page...
this Friday..

 see you then,
gentle readers...
