The final installment..
….if the ghosts don’t have other plans 😂

New Books Coming!!

Ciao gentle readers..

I have had several requests for books..

both tiny and regular sized books…

So I have started making three new books

One is not ready for viewing yet!!

The  tiny book, called Leaflet, is 3 x 3

and the one above is 5 x 6

I’ve opened the books to give you an idea

Of the pages.. the tiny book is all cloth and the

other book is paper and cloth

I’ve tea dyed the pages and I don’t have a theme for the larger book.. but it will tell me what it is shortly..

I will place them in my Textile gallerie as soon as they are

finished.

So we are off on a quick adventure..

and I will try to get back here before we leave

Just a note..

SAVE THE DATE

July 11

Is my annual studio sale, I will take appointments for the day..

But the sale will run the week before and the week after the event.

Ascension Art Book

A is for art and Ascension..
as you know I created this book for
my sister in law, who is dealing with the loss of her
husband, lover and best friend...
who died a little over a year ago..

book making
 is one of my passions...

Ascension, art book, Caterina Giglio

I used an old library book...
6 x 8 1/2"
gutted it, and used the old covers to create a new book
by taping the covers together with book tape..
stitched the signatures into the new spine,
and then covered it in eco dyed fabric..

Feathers

front cover, Ascension, art book, Caterina Giglio

I used onions to dye both the cover and the pages..

Represent

to get the splotchy look, I spooned the dye on the paper and let it dry..

I embellished the pages with freezer paper
which was painted with metallic paints...
I used colored pencils to draw the feathers on Canson art paper
and then stitched them with white thread...

the number three represents a new beginning, from Ascension, Caterina Giglio

the center fold below was stitched on cloth, collaged and the cloth was stitched to
paper

hidden beneath the centerfold pages
are the tiny envelopes and this feather...

bleach dyed peacock feather, Ascension Art Book

the peacock feather was bleached...
and then stitched to a collaged piece of fabric...
the ribbon was onion dyed..

this last page was not shown in
Sew Somerset
and sadly, it is
one of my favorites...

I love the mottled paper and the bold leaf...

the back page below...
onion dyed,
onions seemed the perfect choice..
the do bring tears...

a big thank you
to Stampington
for publishing this
project...

I am so very grateful...

travel the world

ciao...
well as you can see, I have been busy in my studio,
working on new pieces for
and
making a little travel journal
for my upcoming
Caribbean journey...

so while I was at it, I thought that I would show you how I made it..
since I knew you would have questions...
it is very simple..
I am too dyslexic for coptic stitches or anything very complicated...
sometimes simple is best
especially when one is in a hurry...

so I began with a tiny book measuring 4 x 6
and gutted it..

then I made my signatures
or pages for new book makers...
from khadi papers, sketch, watercolor papers and handmade papers...

I ripped a piece of cotton muslin that just fit the inside of the book

and stitched my signatures into the cloth
I used pencil marks to show me where to stitch

then I used PVA to glue the cloth down to the inside of the book

to cover the book, I chose Tyvek and upcycled an old Fed Ex
envelope

this is what the book looked like once the cover was on
and at this point I used paisley papers on the inside covers...

then I used walnut ink to stain the Tyvek cover
and eventually I decided to mix acrylic paint with the walnut ink...
using raw umber and yellow ochre together..
I wanted it to look like old leather...
and in the end I sanded the edges... and sealed it with workable fixatif..
the shell on the front was an old piece of metal I found in a box of buttons..
and I rusted it using a mixture of Miracle Grow Plant food
and water...

I added vellum to the front and back...

and had fun embellishing..

in fact I had to stop myself or I would have painted and stained all the pages...
I need to save it for the trip... I know I will have lots to write about...

above...
I made several Italian Collages to use for the journal
on the front cover and on pages...

I added a glassine envelope to fill with the flotsam and jetsam of
the journey..

So off we go, and I will take lots of photos
to show you upon return...
and of course I will have a journal stuffed with my adventures to show you...
I have my art bag filled with glue sticks, water color pencils, water  brushes, papers, pens and pencils...

I hope you
enjoy the changing season...
it will be fall here when I return, or "leaf season" as I think of it  here in the forest...

grazie! dear readers, for stopping by..
I will be taking a short break while we are off at sea...

C4N!

2011 art journal

finally...
finished the cover of my new art journal
and I am ready to start January pages....

I used an antique silk cigarette memento
for the focal image and layered it on cotton, organza,
and handmade paste papers...

this is the original journal.... below
I bought a couple of them in pristine condition.. so rare...
with all pages intact and with no writing...

I layered photo copied document paper
in the center piece and covered the book horizontally
with a vintage velvet sash (from an old dress)

I added a vintage button and rayon ribbons to tie the journal shut
I rather missed that on my last journal...

and as you see, I put those sari ribbons to good use!
Grazie Lynne!

my ingredients:
vintage ledger, document papers, paste papers, threads, fabrics, assorted ribbons, decorative tape, vintage button

c4n
but I will be back soon with pages...
