Le Jardin De Amants-The French Paper Series

Artists
have favorites...

I try not to..

but there it is..

we do have favorites..

Detail of The Essence of Joy, Mixed Media Collage,  Caterina Giglio

and this collection is one of
those..

favorite....

The Essence of Joy, 8 x 8 Mixed Media Collage, Caterina Giglio

while I love my work..

everything I create,

there are some pieces
that were so effortless to create
and I felt so in tune
when I created it that
I had the feeling
that
I was connected to everyone
and everything..

what inspires me to continue to create,
is that holy union..

Jardin Mosaic, 11 x 14 Italian Collage, Caterina Giglio

and those works
stand out...
methinks...

this series has some favorite Italian Collage pieces
Italian Collage is a form of Chine -Collé.

Chine-collé is a special technique in printmaking, in which the image is transferred to a surface that is bonded to a heavier support in the printing process. One purpose is to allow the printmaker to print on a much more delicate surface, such as Japanese paper or linen, which pulls finer details off the plate.

However..
Italian Collage,
which is a what I call
the process that I use to
press many layers of collage together
using a pasta machine..
and applying lots of gel medium
is very different..

Floating, 8 x 8 Italian Collage, Caterina Giglio

Besides using copious amounts of glue..
I am not creating a
print..
I am simply pressing papers into the substrate...
and the substrate is
mixed media paper
or watercolor paper..

It is time consuming and tedious..

#31 Mixed Media Collage, 8 x 8, Caterina Giglio,

but my favorite part of this collection..

Detail from #31, Caterina Giglio

Detail from Rustica, Caterina Giglio

is the ephemeral quality of the

Rustica, 8 x 8 Mixed media Collage, Caterina Giglio

the images..
snippets of memory ...

Strolling Paris, 11 x 14 Italian Collage, Caterina Giglio

I tried to capture
the whirl of image..

Le Petite Illustration, Italian Collage, Caterina Giglio

as one saunters past..

Carnaval Fleur, 6 x 6, Mixed Media, Caterina Giglio

store fronts...
and restaurants..

Petite Fleur, 5 x 5, Mixed Media, Caterina Giglio

Deux Fleur, 5 x 5, Mixed Media, Caterina Giglio

and the flowers...

Rouge, 5 x 5, Italian Collage, Caterina Giglio

in each box..
on each table..
bouquets of tiny beauty..
offering themselves
for nothing other than
 pure enjoyment..

My show opens tonight in
Fort Collins, CO

Les Jardin De Amants-Part 2

Imagine ..
gentle readers..
my surprise

when I returned to Fort Collins
to do my show last
May
and discovered that several of my
unframed pieces
from
my French Paper Series
collection
were unsold...

and languishing ....

such
tears and sadness..

especially
considering that
they are my most popular collection
on

Caterina Giglio, Jardin Mosaic, Italian Collage

so I was very excited to bring them home..

and I have been working..

Caterina Giglio, No. 31, The French Paper Series

to mount them..

on boards..
below..

Rustica
is the first one to be mounted..

Caterina Giglio, Rustica, The French Paper Series

Then
I will ship them back to
142 Bis Gallerie
for our
annual
Holiday Show..

and will list them in the Gallerie
site on my blog..

Caterina Giglio, Carnaval Fleur

So I am delighted to offer them..

Vintage Fleur, Italian Collage

once again for sale..
Since they are some of my favorites and some
great examples of Italian Collage..

The fine layers of Italian Collage, Floating, from The French Paper Series

As soon as they arrive for the holiday show
I will let you know..

I am also prepping
for a new video..

they take 2 -3 days of work
and I have learned not to rush it..

October pages are being worked..
as well as a few paintings..

and another concertina book..

there is no rest..
for the..

creative..

The Naturalists' Notebook

Well dear readers,
work continues on
my new
collection..

The Naturalists' Notebook

Detail of the Notebook cover with three book covers on an antique periodical book, Caterina Giglio

The pieces of work are as yet
nameless..

Detail from the notebook, Naturalist's Notebook, Caterina Giglio

but I think of the one below as my corvid piece..

and I have been painting butterflies
on tissue paper..

because I wanted to create a sense of
transparency..

the collection is multi layered
and I find myself still editing..

painting over and sanding back...

all of the pieces are about
transformation..
magic, illumination and growth..

it is a personal show...

but highly universal as well..
whom among us is not challenged to grow and change?

The show opens
May 5 and 6
in Fort Collins, Colorado
at 142 Bis Gallerie

and I will be present for both showings..
I am very excited to be going home..

of course it will be ongoing..

We will be shooting film of the show before
it begins and posting it to YouTube
so that all of you can attend the
First Friday event..

and we will be shooting
the next YouTube video this week
on Art Journaling: Creating Layers..

Thank you again, for your kind readership..

Storytelling with Collage

Gentle readers....

I am so honored
to have been asked to
create a piece
of art for
this exquisite
new book...

Storytelling with Collage..
by

I have long admired her blog, her work
and her beautiful world...
so I was thrilled when she asked me to contribute..

In the studio,
I pulled out lots of materials and then just allowed them to dictate the direction
and when I finished the piece..
I knew the story...

Book publications are so different from
magazine publications...
Generally, when I create and write for magazines,
I am creating for an audience of artists who will want
to try to duplicate or find inspiration from my work and words..
my creation is directed with the audience in mind..

A book publication on the other hand, gives me
complete autonomy to create a piece of art
that that comes straight from my soul..

I used several antique pieces and I combined them
using my Italian Collage technique..
so that the embossed Victorian scrap above melts
perfectly into the background...

This piece inspired my
Patched and Torn series
that you can view
in the

I hope you will
check out this new book...
as Roxanne has such gorgeous work
and photos,
and there are so many projects...

you can order it on

I am also in excellent company
with many artists..
too many to name here...
having been asked to participate..

and now,
I am going to get a delicious glass of wine..
and I am going to
read this book
cover
to cover...
because it is as you know,
my one weakness!

ciao, ciao!
