Antique Paper Collage & 142 Bis Gallerie

the best pieces
from my new collection...

What Lies Beneath
are
slowly being framed
and ready for shipment to..

the simplicity of this series
underlines the power of what is revealed below..

all of it
lies in interpretation of course..
mine
and then yours...

I am currently working on my artist statement
for this show
which
coincides with
EsScentuals
25th anniversary celebration...

it is hard to believe that it has been 25 years...
but it is certainly a milestone for celebration...

and it is fitting to show pieces with such reverence for age
for this anniversary...

New pieces framed in grey wood frames..

and

I am also very pleased to announce

That
142
Bis
Gallerie
will be my exclusive
representation...

It is rare when someone not only
loves
your work,
but tirelessly supports what you do..

and for that
I am most grateful..

so, gentle reader, I am closing
my online gallery
and all sales will be handled through
142
Bis
Gallerie

at
EsScentuals

Current work will be found
on the page at the top of my blog

this change will give me time to work on new series and try
out new things..

without having to manage my own shop..

Art work wrapped for shipment at 142 Bis Gallerie

as a recent collector wrote
 after purchasing my work
thru the gallerie...

"I've never (no, not ever)
seen such love and respect shown a piece of art"

What a perfect fit..

ciao, ciao...

Italian Collage, Fine Art and Flying

Apart from gallivanting around the world,
visiting family and rescuing other humans...
I have also been busy in the studio..

The holidays
are always a time for giving...
and gifting..

and if you are an artist, it is also the time for working

small..

3x3 mini canvas, mixed media collage, Caterina Giglio

not as easy as some would think
working on sizes outside the comfort zone
is necessary if you want to shake off a few cobwebs...

this is a tiny collection that reflects
our resilience, our ability to fly even though our wings may be tattered or patched..
inspired by the people in my life who
are still flying,
facing death, insurmountable grief,
and the total loss of memory..

Patched Morpho, mixed media on canvas..

when the Japanese have a bowl or cup that is cracked or broken
they repair the item with gold which makes the cup stronger
and obviously more beautiful...

My Patched Morpho, above is repaired with gold leaf...

the chunky canvas above are enlarged below
the dragonfly wing is stitched together
flying out of the mist...

Out of the Mist, 4 x 4 x 1 1/2 canvas

Winging, 4 x 4 x 1 1/2 canvas

the wing is a rubber stamp, I cut for the show and printed on an old book page...

and it wouldn't
be the holidays without angels...

The French Guardian below

4 x 4 canvas, French Guardian

the only piece on paper.. below
the little Putti..

Putti, 5 x 7 watercolor paper...

and finally,
the last three pieces
I love the way they look together...

These are all on board
which I adore, because they take such a beating..
and you know how I love texture..
Italian collage,
antique ephemera
and gold leaf...

Soaring, 5 x 7 board, Italian collage, mixed media

Bird of Paradise, Italian Collage, mixed media hand cut rubber stamp on 5 x 7 board

Patched Dragonfly, Italian Collage, 5 x 7 board

and I just had to shoot a photo of them
below... all framed and waiting for
their protective covers...

all
off to
EsScentuals

to debut in their little
holiday show...

we are off again,
this time to see family and to welcome a
new grand baby..

there are few things more
wonderful than welcoming a new human into the world..

a lovely
Holiday gift...

packing up... again

no not the house...
my work...
to send
to my gallery

I just got the pieces back from
for the
Portfolio/ Interview that they did
in the Sept./Oct. issue

and I debated about framing the paper pieces or leaving them
raw and I decided to offer them
frameless this time and see how they are received...

small Italian collage pieces and mosaic in the bottom left corner and above

so I put them all in sleeves and finished them off with washi tape

and the cradled boards were all fitted with hangers
and labeled on the back of the boards

close up of La Petite Illustration

I love the neat stack and piles of work...
all neatly packaged
and bubbled carefully..

close up of Strolling Paris 8 x 8 cradled board

we don't usually show off the business side of art...
but it is all part of the job...

and I noticed that I now need new business cards!
because my email addy has changed!
fortunately I was down to the last of them..

the show is
Oct 25 and 26
in Fort Collins

Les Jardins Des Amants

Friday I will be back with
photos of all the work and
details about the show...

142 bis gallerie

unless you have been living under a rock..
or are in another country...

you have probably heard about the
devastating
floods in Colorado...

last summer they literally burned up ...
suffering terrifying forest fires
and this year, the flooding cut off towns and destroyed lives...
it breaks my heart...

alley in Fort Collins...

even though I know that all is well,
it is hard to see the photos and videos and listen to the dismay in
my friends voices...
and the best I can do is keep them all safe and tight in
heart...

in August we journeyed back home for a tiny visit...
and I took these pics of

and
142
Bis
Gallerie

the antique planter box at the front window...

I am so blessed to be represented by
Meg DeWeese...
the shop and gallery is such a perfect fit in many ways...
first of all, it looks splendid in her environment...
and second, she really, "gets me"

we have been friends for many years
and she understands the quirky way my
artist mind works..
my love of layers and textures
my passion for old, foxed and crumbled...papers
my love affair with paint...

my work above the clever card fence...

more work below...

the gallery is located downstairs,
to the right of the clock...
descend carefully...

wrapping papers and ribbons and cards oh my...

It is a feast for the senses...

lots of gorgeous antique fixtures in this store.. and gallery

my photos do not do it justice, because it is such a sensual experience..

all of my new work featured in
in the Portfolio article
will be
going to Bis for a show this fall..
AND

I will be back soon with
a fall give away...

because
moving is imminent!!

journal's end

well, gentle readers, this is a long post...
I promised you this a couple of months ago...
my art journal is finished...
if you have been following the sweet life
for a while, you know that art journaling is
an important part of my life...

a necessary ingredient...
a cathartic process...
a way to deal with issues...
and
an opportunity to try out new techniques
products and make rough drafts for
art pieces...
so here you have
my
2011-2012
art journal

if you remember ... the cover looked very different from this
and to see the original cover

the old cover did not hold up to the wear and tear of
two years and so I fashioned this from an old book cover
and an antique metal scrap..
the fern piece was stitched and glued to the cover...
since the book cover was in poor shape,
I stitched the edges and covered it liberally with
gel medium...
