2011 art journal

finally...
finished the cover of my new art journal
and I am ready to start January pages....

I used an antique silk cigarette memento
for the focal image and layered it on cotton, organza,
and handmade paste papers...

this is the original journal.... below
I bought a couple of them in pristine condition.. so rare...
with all pages intact and with no writing...

I layered photo copied document paper
in the center piece and covered the book horizontally
with a vintage velvet sash (from an old dress)

I added a vintage button and rayon ribbons to tie the journal shut
I rather missed that on my last journal...

and as you see, I put those sari ribbons to good use!
Grazie Lynne!

my ingredients:
vintage ledger, document papers, paste papers, threads, fabrics, assorted ribbons, decorative tape, vintage button

c4n
but I will be back soon with pages...
xo

I think there's something really special about decorating your cover ready to begin. It gives you a great feeling and seems to fire up the creativity I think :)

This looks great. Happy journalling!

I have journal envy! This is one gorgeous cover, although I had never heard of cigarette silks before. The colors are so rich and the sari silks are perfect addition. BUT (and you knew one was coming) add to that the fact that it's a ledger, and I'm swooning. Or maybe that's just drool (grin).

Your journal is very beautiful. I love the velvet sash, button and the seam binding to tie it shut. Lovely details.

This cover is so wonderful and appears fragile like the gentle words you share with us. Beautiful work. Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart

They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but this one looks like it will have lovely things inside!

Cat you have worked wonders! A cover like that must inspire one to create beautiful pages.

Very pretty, Cat. I love the simple flower in the center ~ it draws the eye in and you can't help but notice the other elements ~ the softness of the velvet, the organza, the cotton.
I imagine a journal filled with beautiful soft images, old love letters and such.
Isn't it amazing how a cover can send our imagination in a certain direction?
A beautiful piece of art, Cat.

love it Cat!
Oh to be so organised and clever as to make this beautiful object...Ive been working on canvas for quite some time.... but miss the pleasure and discipline of doing small works like this Cat. Its been a long time since I did really. There's a whole entire process to assembling all the pieces pet alone composing the work!
lovely to hear form you and thanks for your wonderfully supportive comments. Keep warm!
