Eco Dyed Collage

Each summer...
I work on my submission
for
Sew Somerset
knowing that if the work is chosen

for publication, 

it will be published 

December 1

when... let's face it, no matter what holiday

you celebrate,

there will be festivity in the air..

and busyness buzzing

everywhere...

so

I was inspired by two things when I created

these eco dyed collages..

the black bean bath that soaked a kitchen towel

and the antique angels from

from a tattered print..

The pale blue shade of the black bean dye bath

reminded me of some

antique cover papers in an old

set of books that I have been

squirreling away..

they were lovely..

with a tiny blue, green and gold floral pattern..

and such a shame 

not to be able to see them...

so I used them as my substrates ...

details, details, details...

it is always about the details..

Once again I am in great company

I always look forward to

about when I made it...

Believe it or not, I am already stitching up...

 my new article and artwork...

this will be for the December Winter issue...

and I hope it is inspiring...

I photo copied these flowers 

with a dear friend...

and friends will be at the center of the next article as well...

it will be available

June 1st...

I am always so delighted to be published in

a Stampington publication...

I think I lost track at 20 publications...

and although it is always wonderful to see my work 

in print...

the reason I continue to submit my work is to 

 inspire others to be creative, 

to explore mixed media...

and appreciate art...

 I believe that

people are happiest when

they are creative...

and everyone can create...

because life is art...

and although I have stopped teaching classes...

I can continue to hopefully inspire others

thru these publications...

as soon as these abstracts return

I will be placing them in the

rose botanicals

I just received my comp issue of 

Sew Somerset

and I have to say,

it is a great issue...

when

I sent the eco-dyed fabric botanicals

in to the magazine with my article, I thought it would

be perfect for summer...

since so many people have gardens and 

dyes are as easy as cutting a few herbs or pulling 

a few beets... 

and I am in great company again...

bird quilts

just as I am beginning to 

write a new article for submission

with 

Sew Somerset

my bird quilts in the 

Winter 2011 issue

have returned...

"sunset"

we collectively use birds as metaphors to describe people and relationships

and with these quilts I wanted to

explore and express current feelings and relationships

with family and friends...

"adaptation"

these first three pieces are  

roughly 8" x 8"

"fly in all directions"

the small pieces below measure

5" x 5"

"mindful" 

and they are all hand stitched on Khadi paper

"joy" 

with antique ephemera

"comfort"

and grey sari ribbons...

 ingredients: antique stamps and thread labels, paper ephemera thread, painted papers, stained papers. fabric, lace and acrylic paint. 

I am way behind in my postings

the new Pasticcio Quartz Zine

as I have a piece published there as well...
