Carte Postale- Part One

I have been working

on my new series..

Carte Postale

and I am putting the finishing touches

on some of the larger pieces..

I was not satisfied with mounting them

on paper

and decided to put them on cradled boards

which pleased me

and gave me an opportunity to add

even more texture..

this series began as I was going through

old post cards and stamps and was

graciously given

a lot of wonderful old stamps

by my friend Jeanne...

it is so seldom,

that we receive a post card

anymore...

often a business will send them out..

but the old

romantic thought of sending a post card

has

mostly fallen out of favor

a post card

was once a winged thought..

a desire to share an experience..

and wish that a special someone could share in the joy

of the sight...

the discovery...

the pleasure..

Part Two

will be here next week

and then...

titles..

hardware...

shipping..

and show time...

ciao, ciao!

creatively...

The substrate is

heavy watercolor paper,

papered with antique French book pages

and sanded back and then painted...

the floral drawings are

all hand sketched with pen and ink

on

tracing paper

to allow the background to come through..

peeking inside a garden...

 to find a treasure...

Inside view of Books on Gardening

that you might deem it such mess, but truly it's my

wilderness"

Carte Postale-Mini Mixed Media Paintings

Did I ever tell you,

dear reader, that friends send me lovely

ephemera and treasures

by post...?

my friend

Jeanne

sent me loads of beautiful old stamps..

and they inspired me to make some

small collage tiles...

using a neutral color palette

mini mixed media paintings

they measure 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

and I mounted them on mixed media board..

they feel so romantic to me,

rich in drama..

and relationship..

I imagine them traveling far..

to distant places with hope and love,

news of congratulations, celebrations...

and  of sadness and tragedy..

a tiny geometric shape...

holding so much energy..

as it was fixed to the envelope...

I love the stories that I weave in my mind...

about all the people that touched just one of these

stamps..

just imagine...

it is as if I can hear them whispering to me

from the past...

I don't know how many I will make, but I have a few more in the works..

may your week be beautiful

and all your letters filled with joy..
