The "Gina" Series

She is finished!

My latest painting of my dear friend and muse, Gina..

this is a documentary series that I have been painting for about

9 years..

My Gina Series are all acrylic paintings on cradled boards at different times in her life..

Celestial Gina

9 x 12

This new portrait is when I met Gina, and is from a photo taken in the 1990's. I had just met her, she was 38 a single Mom, with a nursing degree working as a massage therapist.

That Rat Bastard

11 x14

The title and subject is something many people can relate to .. however Gina was brave enough to share how she was feeling about the relationship..

Gina in the Rain

16 x 20

Hair. Curly girls understand that it if you are confident in the rain it is a matter of
Self Love.

Gina Fights the Beast Covid

12 x 16

Gina works as a nurse in California, when the pandemic hit, all elective procedures were canceled and she was
forced into becoming a holy witness to the suffering of her patients. She texted me a photo in her uniform asking for prayers for herself and the hospital.
I translated that into this portrait.

This project is on going..
I have no idea  how many portraits will be painted..
but I appreciate your kind attention..

this is a powerful project for me to undertake
and has been years in the making..
but one that I think is important..

Thanks for stopping by
as always I so appreciate you...

Persephone

A new painting..

my dear ones, was started last week...

she is Persephone...

and she is bringing back

Spring and Summer

to the people..

after being forced to live in the cold underworld

She looks sweet but she is a savvy feminist..
you will see as she progresses..

I am working from a mixed media piece I created..
and of course she will change...
and morph into the goddess that she is..

I have a lot of decisions to make about her..

her halo.. her hair and I know she will have tattoos

but where and what I have yet to determine..

I will also decide about the flowers..

which are summer and which are spring..

"You may not control all the events that happen to you,

but you can decide not to be reduced by them"

Maya Angelou

As always thanks for stopping by

and taking the time to listen to

my thoughts..

Freya

Sorry! Sold!!

Ciao dear readers..
I have finished the first
of many Goddesses
that I intend

to paint..

I have been rereading
the Power of Myth..
a fabulous interview by
Bill Moyers with Joseph Campbell

and I was struck by the potency of our universal stories

Freya, 12 x 16 acrylic on canvas

I have always been intrigued by symbolist art..

so I have chosen to

create art that speaks to our universal stories..

all the tales of women, at once modern and antique..

I am going to start on the new painting soon..

I think I told you that I was working on a painting..

but I didn't mention it was a diptych..

Of course they can be purchased separately...

but they look so great together
I think..

These were taken this last summer just before the autumn when the hayfields had just. been cut
I love the contrast..

Happy Holidays! 2019

Happy Holidays..
my gentle readers and viewers..

I am writing my last post of the year
for 2019

I have been busy with so many tasks..

Fresh holly from my garden...

Getting the decorations all finished..
we always have a fresh tree,
and I put out the empty chair for those
who are no longer here with us..
a place for them to sit and be with us..
to invite them into our space

we acknowledge that they are

present...

and we feel their love..

The empty chair, waits for those we miss and love... a special place for them to rest..

We have many traditions that we look forward to
and holidays that we celebrate..

For us, it is a time filled with light..
candles and lights and celebrating the light within us all..
we share so much and have so much in common..
we look forward to celebrating
Solstice
and writing our goals and dreams on papers
the night of Solstice..
to be planted in the spring..

As you know, dear hearts,
I have a great love of
nature and as a naturalist,
I celebrate the seasons..
this one is dear to me,
because it is the fallow time..
a time to incubate new ideas and to
rest..
allowing inspiration
to fill me

and taking time with those I love...

Work in progress, acrylic painting, Kaden and Kori in the Grass

and speaking of
loved ones..
I have been working on this painting above as a
Holiday Present
but alas, I am no where near finished,
so I will be working on it in the next few weeks..
and you will see it finished..

I promise!

But for now,
I am taking my holiday break..
I will write again in the
new year..

and I send you all my kindest
Holiday wishes..
for a magnificent
Holiday
 season..
and a glorious
2020!

The Abstract Nature of Water

It was a dark and stormy day..
yesterday..

and I had every intention of
finishing my journal pages...

so that I could share them with you here
today...

Caterina Giglio, WIP, The Nature of Water, Acrylic on canvas, 3' x 4'

but my muse wanted to paint instead..
and being rather indulgent of the child artist within,

we just went with it...

I get lost in this painting..
it is 3' x 4'

and when finished will take up a major wall
in my living room..

I have been working on it as time allows..
first the under painting and now the main body and soon

Glazes will be applied to tone down the white at the top of the painting..
as you can see below...
the small photo that I am working on
as a reference..

And as long as I am sharing WIPs..
I might as well show you the biggest one of all..

I do hope to finish it soon..

my wall is very bare after all!

The Nature of Water, Caterina Giglio, Acrylic on canvas, 3' x 4'  WIP.. with reference photograph

but today I will be working on the
pieces that I am sending to
my amazing gallerie
for this holiday season..

back to work..
back to the studio..

and by the way, all the books I am reading..
can be purchased by clicking on the image
and hopping over to Amazon..

thanks ever so much..

Mixed Media, Works in Progress

I know you know..

I have never been a fan of sharing my
works in progress..

Mixed media painting and photograph, Caterina Giglio

I suppose it is because
my vision for the piece and what you see, are so very different..

but there are times,
like now...

Photo, Caterina Giglio

when all I have to show for myself
are a collection of pieces in process..

the photo above I shot of our pool.
right after a rainfall,
and I loved it so much, I decided to paint it

Large Canvas in process, Caterina Giglio

The canvas is large, 36 x 48
and will fit perfectly in my home..
I have a lot of work yet to do on it,

but, I am excited about it..

and I am still working on a series of portraits of my
dear friend, Gina St. Brigid
I finished the small one below 9 x 12
Mad Gina
which I love,
both mixed media..

Mixed Media portrait of Gina St. Brigid, by Caterina Giglio

The large piece below is 16 x 20 both on cradled boards

The Rain Makes My Hair Curl..

is almost finished and I plan on doing several more..

Mixed Media portraits of Gina St. Brigid, Caterina Giglio

also in process is a cardboard book..
currently giving me fits..

Turmeric and Onion dyed pages, cardboard book in process, Caterina Giglio

while I adore the signatures (or pages if you are unfamiliar with
bookmaking)
stitching into the cardboard is extremely trying...

Turmeric and avocado dyed pages in cardboard book, Caterina Giglio

but you know me,
I have already decided that I will do it again, because
I will conquer it..

Cardboard book in process, Caterina Giglio

I am thoughtfully contemplating my art journal pages
for this month and I am thinking
I need to use stitches to illustrate
the words below..

Art Journal page in process, Caterina Giglio

on the mixed media table are a few new works..
sneaky peeks..

Tissue Paper butterfly on mixed media, Caterina Giglio

tissue paper butterflies and dragonflies
and the beginning of an article
for Somerset..

a proposal at least..

So ...
you may not see these for a while..
who knows?

so, there you have it, dear readers..
everything in process...

I cannot even begin to share with
you all the projects in my head and written in my notebooks..

so many ideas,
I am truly blessed..

and I thank you as
always
for stopping by..

Ciao, Ciao!
