2018 Brings Changes!

Happiest New Year..

I am slowly getting back to my studio..
and working on a couple of

and speaking of deadlines...

I met this one a while back
and will be sharing the art with you when it returns...

I hope you will pick up a copy of

Somerset Studio

My work and article are featured
in the January issue..

Naturalists' Notebook article and technique, featured in Jan/Feb. issue of Somerset Studio

and I have used my holiday break wisely..
thinking and chewing
on the possibilities of the
New Year
and what I want to do and create
and most of the changes for me...
ultimately you...
dear viewers and readers..
center on

  1. While I love creating videos for you all, and I adore being able to offer you techniques and projects as a gift from me to you and to use for your own personal enjoyment, I have to admit that they take a lot of time, energy, and money.. so I will be producing fewer Vlog posts on YouTube, but I hope they will be even better. 31 videos was a lot and I thought I would try to film around 24 this year.
  2. While I know many of you have asked for classes and I have chewed on the idea, endlessly, I have decided NOT TO TEACH. I have been an instructor for most of my adult life, from a training co-ordinator in retail and as an artist, I have taught everything from bow-making to life drawing and mixed media, and while I love sharing what I know, I love CREATING even more, and I want to spend more time in my studio, "Just making cool stuff" to quote a dear friend.
  3. I know that blogs are considered dead, and many people just don't take the time to read, but I am recommitting to my blog, "beautiful old dinosaur" that she is.. and I will be taking more time to share about the things that give me fits in the studio.. what works and what doesn't.. while trying not to moan on endlessly about it all and perhaps I can put into words what I am really trying to convey as I work. I used to look for something finished or accomplished to share and now I am going to just share where I am... if it is boring, let me know!

A new year always brings change..
and as we know, it is the only constant in our lives..
so embracing change is the only way to stay sane..
like a willow bending in the wind..

I intend to bend to the pull of my creative direction..
and follow my muse where she

In the studio, besides my deadlines, I am working on
my art Journal and I am trying to decide what to do with the cover..
I want to have that finished for my year end reveal..
so if I finish that, you will see it ALL ..
and if not, you will see December pages
next Tuesday,
at least..

My first video will be on my 2016-2017
Art Journal
and I will share techniques and what was happening in my life
to inspire the pages for each month..

I send you all my kindest
New Year wishes..

may it be a good one,
without any tears..

Wise decision, and it seems on trend for this year to redeeicate to one’s own practice, exploration, and enjoyment. I look forward to your videos and blog posts for this year! ❤️

Thank you Caterina for being old fashioned. I love your blog and appreciate just how much time and effort goes into it and the videos you make. I read several various blogs daily and all of the authors are well over fifty. I don't even pretend to understand how all the electronic devices work so remain a dinosaur happily. With best wishes for the New Year.

Caterina, I find it interesting that a couple of times a year, it will come up on social media somewhere how people feel about blogging and the terms...blogging is dead will be mentioned.
Statistics show that blogging is trending up and there are many millions of businesses using it more and more.
(Google blogging trends for 2018. )
For me, I never care too much what’s in or supposedly out. I do things because I really enjoy it. If others are tired of doing it and calling it dead, oh well...
I love your blog, videos, everything, and can’t wait to read it/watch it and I appreciate that you’ve encouraged me in so many ways.
I’d say, you should do what you love and we will happily follow right along!

Wishing you a wonderful 2018 Cat. I like your reflections and you recommitment to your work and doing what you love; honouring others but also recognising the maker has to make...I am pleased you will still be a'blogging; I enjoy the longer and lengthier chats one can have reading a blog. Go well!

I'm so glad you will be keeping your blog going! It's one of my favorites and I enjoy it so much. Whenever you call me gentle reader, it makes me think I actually am. (lol) Best wishes for 2018!

Blogs are not dead, they just call them websites now. HA! Anyone who has a presence online is starting up a new website. I much prefer our dinosaur way of blogging. I want to make simple, honest, personal connections and am not seeking numbers or attention. I certainly understand your need to just create. Everyone keeps telling me I should do craft shows or markets. That I should make things to sell, but honestly, I don't want the headache. I don't want the stress of deadlines. My whole reason for not working anymore was to create a peaceful existence. I much prefer to volunteer my time, energy and resources as I see fit. :) Wishing you a bright and sparkly new year.

wishing you a blessed, fruitful 2018! I've ordered the mag (not that easy to find in UK...)
and I now have a new blog in honour of my new Word for the new year :)

Dear Cat,
I agree , many bloggers left, to stay only on fb and instagram, an d whatever of quick flash posts ... I still hang to my blog, as you do , and I tend to go on :-)
I read the beautiful Somerset article yesterday evening, -your dream was wonderfully fulfilled, dear friend.
I wish you inspiration to finish your cover and look forward to your first 2018 video .
Loving hugs from Dorthe

Hi Linda! Thanks so much for your comment, I am thrilled to know that you read so many blogs and it is reassuring to know that as an "ancient artist" you read my blog too. If finding blogs and negotiating a computer makes you a dinosaur then there a lot of people who are far more prehistoric!! Thanks again, I so appreciate your comment!

Oh, dear Laura... aka Hasty Pearl, you do my heart such good! Thank you for that information. It is wonderful to hear. As you can tell, I have been told many times that they are dead and it is a waste of time to write a blog. But as you can see, I have been puttering on since 2009 and many have fallen by the wayside. I always believed that people would someday return to reading, want more than just a sound bite or a quick photo. I have lots of fun things planned for this year, and am so very glad we met. Thank you, for your comments, and your friendship! xox

Dear Fiona, thanks so much, you are so right, a "maker has to make" I knew you would understand.. I know I may loose a few followers but must be true to me and my authenticity as an artist. x

Caterina Giglio said...

Ah, gentle reader, my dear Miss Iowa... thank you for that, as you know I am quite old fashioned. My husband calls it "cat speak" :) I think of my readers that way, before a computer or on their phones with a cuppa, reading and perusing my little photos.. it warms my heart, as your kind comments always do! x

Caterina Giglio said...

LOL Tammy, dearheart.. exactly!! You completely understand. What I am very clear about is if we are not clear about what we are wanting, people will move us in the direction of what they are wanting. Like you, I am not concerned about numbers or attention, but rather in communicating what I am doing and where I am going, and recording my journey. What I notice about WEBSITES is this.. they all have a blog!! LOL thank you dear friend, I will pop over soon to see what you are up to!! xox

Hi Claire, I am so happy that you found the zine, I understand that their distribution out of the country is poor and that makes me very sad. However I think you will like the entire zine, and I will be over to check out your new blog, and congrats on that my dear!! So very happy for you!! x

If bogs are dead, so am I. Blogging is the only place you will find me, so I'm thrilled you are recommitted to your blogging efforts. I ALWAYS love your blog and am so in love with everything you do. I don't care if it's in progress or a completed entry, it always inspires me in ways you can't possibly imagine. Thanks for being YOU, dear Cat.

I so understand about the teaching decision. I am a life long art educator. I have not taught any art workshops in some time- after teaching 36 years of teaching full time- I have no desire to lots of workshops a year but I do love to teach- here there hasn't been a lot of interest so I have had to travel to do that and I am not a good traveler. I know when we get moved to New Mexico there will be more opportunities. I love you videos and such a gift. I always look forward to them. Wishing you the best new year Cat. xoxo
