Handmade Journal with Tyvek Cover

Ciao, dearhearts...

I hope you enjoy this little video on my Tyvek covered journal..
I wanted to create something that
had a yummy leather look..

and I think I found it..

Let me know what you think..

The only thing I did not share is how to embellish the cover..
but since everyone will be doing something different..
I am sure you will create the perfect collage
for your personal journal...

if you have any questions, you know I will
be more than happy to answer them..

Have a gorgeous weekend
my gentle viewers..

Cat, I love your videos! It's so much fun to see how you do things - I so enjoy watching other artists work. I find myself asking, "Now, why didn't I think of that?" You are a pretty fine teacher. I was wondering, what exactly do you mean by'mixed media paper'? Thanks, Sweetheart!

Sharmon, thanks you dearheart, you can buy paper that is specifically designed for mixed media, at any of the art stores, Blick, Michaels, Amazon... it is made to take a beating.. xox

This is wonderful, Cat. I love the cover. First, you are lucky to have that old tyvek. The new has writing on the inside. I can't believe I threw a bunch of the old away. I'm a ditz and now all I can get is the red writing on the inside.

I don't have any walnut crystals and I don't know where to find them in town. I DO have lots of Golden Fluid Acrylics. Is there anything I can use in lieu of the crystals, or are they needed for the acrylics to attach to the tyvek? I used craft grade acrylic (cheap) on tyvek and it flaked off. Any thoughts?

PS Forgot to mention, I don't buy anything on the internet, so please don't suggest Amazon, etc.

Hey, Dr. E, that was my last envelope! Curses! I will have to order it on Amazon! The crytals have intense color, but if you add a dark brown paint, like I did at the end of the video, it will turn out well. I use fluid acrylic Golden, it is pricey, but it has a higher saturation and it goes right thru the Tyvek. I imagine a heavy body could flake as well. Do you have a Dick Blick or a Jerry's Artarama nearby? They might carry cystal, but I still think dark fluid paint is a perfect solution! X

A most beautiful book you created with the tyvek envelope- a gorgeous look you achieve with the ink and other products, to make it look leather-like, Cat. And I love how you added the pages to the spine,- a wonderful, and good working way . Thank you so much dearheart , for this brilliant video- after being a member of the DT myself, I surely understand you not being able to make a video a week .... it all takes time, and we also need to be just humans :-)
Sending Sunday hugs - Dorthe

I buy Golden's fluid acrylics whenever I have a coupon at Michael's. Pricey, yes, BUT a little goes a LONG way. I'll use the fluid acrylics and see if that works. It can't hurt, at least. Thanks for letting me know.

NO art supply stores near me. I guess these places think we in Kansas don't make art (grin), just crafts.

Fun, fun project! I ordered the crystals from amazon on Saturday and they came today!! Yay! I got the tyvek envelopes with the printing and more good news, the print doesn’t show through. My little book is almost done and I had fun doing it. Thank you, Caterina!

Let me know how it turns out, Dr. E! Crummy that you do not have a good art store nearby. Consider calling the closest one to you and giving them a credit card or debit over the phone like the old days and having them mail it to you in the post.. x

Hi Angela, I am delighted to hear that you got the materials and had no problems with them! Enjoy the process, and I will make more videos!! Thanks for watching!!
