garden sketches

today is going to be a hot one here..
in the mitten state...
we will be sweating the whole week
from what I hear...
so I won't be outside...

but I did get a couple of sketches done
over the weekend...

giglio translates to lily in Italian
and gigli is plural...

lilies

Lilium Candidum

of all the flowers in my garden
I of course chose to sketch
the lilies...

they represent so much...

Gigli

hope, renewal, birth and also death..

the stylized version of the lily is the
Fleur De Lys in French and translates to Italian as giglio..

for the sketches, I used Prismacolors and made simple line drawings and then enhanced them with walnut ink using a
brush..

just for fun...

hope you are taking time to do things,
just for fun too...

ciao, ciao!

I noticed my white lilies (gigli) I planted at Easter last year have bloomed. I was really surprised.

Of course, I love your drawings, but what really impressed me was the way you added all those pencil colors on the side. I know there's a name for that, but right now I can't think of it.

BTW, I can almost feel the warmth of those brick. You got incredible texture from those pencils.

Be sure to stay cool (and hydrated), dear friend. It's going to be a scorcher here, too.

Lovely playtime...drawing with colored pencils builds slowly and has a feeling of satisfaction. Enjoy your inside play!

I love lilies, yours are beautiful and your sketches divine.

I'm staying cool in the mountains, on a little vacation.

Very excited to read you'll be coming east in the fall...can't wait to hear more about your plans and wouldn't it be SO lovely to get to meet up for a cuppa or more :)

Love the lily sketch and the photos. The deer always eat mine here, plus I've been too lax in separating the plants, but I do love the lily...so much symbolism.
Just wanted to thank you for sharing my photo on the faceb. Since no one has ever done that before with one of my photos, I didn't know the protocol of liking it or commenting. I remain not very good with social media!! (Very much appreciate the re-post!)

Your sketch of the lilies with notes and colour chart down the side, caught my attention. I also enjoyed comparing the sketch to the photo. Lovely post Cat.
