Assemblage or Collage?

There is something
holy
about taking those
mundane
pieces of
everyday life and elevating them...

lifting them a bit higher..

with their tears,
and scratches...

snippets of long ago weddings...

empty button cards saved
to remember a special shirt or blouse..

I think that in
celebrating the past..

and combining
the memories...

we tell new stories
of friendship, family...

life
and love...

assembling
collages...

pulling old crumpled
memorabilia together

and stitching it to the page..

we open a door
to
a new future
a new way of looking at things..

and allow life to spill off

the page...

with gratitude to
Sew Somerset for publishing this collection
and my article
The Sisterhood of Sewing...

ciao, ciao!

I just KNEW you would post today, even before I read your comment on my blog. Seems Tuesday is the day I don't make it around nearly ask much as I should. BUT, here I am today, and I am in total AWE of this collection. Like you, I have so much of this old stuff, it's hard to know where to begin with it. You have set my mind whirling and now I want to make pieces similar to these. You have truly inspired me. I adore what you shared, because it's the old and cast off, just like the products I often play with. GORGEOUS ART.

I love them dear Cat, the torn papers, with the fragile and beautiful old tulle-lace, the old sewing notions, and your stitches here and there, lovely on top of each other.
A wonderful way of creating new stories, and new-old pieces to be treasured, and to save the beauty of yester year for even longer.
Hugs from Dorthe

LOL.... Lana, honestly the whole idea of a book is so overwhelming... maybe one day.. I think it would be more fun if you and I could just hang out and make art... :D

Gail you are so dear, and when you have so much old stuff, what else can you do, eh?? xox

Hi E, well that is why I write for Somerset, to encourage peeps to try to create art, and I am glad you found it inspiring... Instead of teaching, I have gladly and consistently chosen to create and write ... x

Such a beautiful collection Cat!
Your style of decorating is unique and special no matter what the subject.
Getting behind lately with my visits due to much downsizing of our lives!
More later!
