architecture tour

well gentle readers.....

if you find yourself
in
Chicago...
on a hot... hot... day...

I suggest

that you take an

by boat of course on the cool water
of the

the photo above is the restaurant
where we ate a lovely
sunset supper...

while enjoying the river traffic...
and passersby...

not all of these photos were taken from the boat tour

but most were captured...
in the cool breeze and looking straight up...

the Opera Building was magnificent...

and I loved the organic nature of this building and the towers
in the second image... above...
don't you?

the lower level of Chicago,
at the rivers edge...
was built to haul trash and make deliveries
below the tall buildings and mitigate traffic...

it was a stunning... gorgeous day...

with a remarkable sparkle of shadow and shine...

the Wrigley Building above...
and the new Trump Tower below...

the juxtaposition between design and time...
below...

the view from our room...
with Lake Michigan in the far beyond...

I was taken by the curves and lines...
and the moodiness of the sky...

we had a corner room
that also overlooked the

with that wonderful landmark sign...

so dear ones, I hope you enjoyed the tour...
and if you want to see
my Frank Lloyd Wright tour
go to my other blog...

ciao, ciao!

One of the things I always enjoyed about downtown Chicago was how white all the buildings looked through camera lenses. Unlike many cities that have a lot of color, Chicago felt right with white. I love your photos and the fun day you gave us.

Sounds like you had a fabulous time! I always enjoyed the drive from Chicago to my aunt's place in Michigan. Never did the wineries along the way but it's something I will do one of these days. Hope you are having a good day. Tammy

What a lovely tour! I felt like I was there...Chicago is a beautiful city. BTW just wanted to let you know that we had to postpone our trip to Fort Collins to the latter part of this month, and I am still looking forward to seeing your work at the shop in Old Town. Cynthia

I love that tour, and I am sure you passed the behemoth known as the Merchandise Mart, where we go every June. The rest of the tour is fabulous though, great way to see Chicago. Thanks for sharing. xox Corrine

What a great tour of the city and I especially loved the picture with the juxtaposition of old with new! I am always so fascinated with architecture- so thanks for this very special treat!

You captured it wonderfully Cat and brought me back to my trip there where I was 'taken' in much the same way. Unfortunately, it was business so I didn't have the same opportunity to enjoy it like it is abundantly clear you did! Chicago just smells of architectural wonder doesn't it? I'm amazed at the height of the Trump Tower - it was at ground level when I visited (6 years ago).
I'm with Jill on the old and new photo! I wonder what will be 'the new' when the Trump Tower becomes "the old"?

I have never been to Chicago-- but I have been to NYC a number of times- and the tall buildings bring back memories- and I guess Trump has a building in every big city.. thanks for the tour.
