My Lady

Well, gentle readers..
 I was preparing my post
on the backstory of

The Posey
below
from my Madonna Roundels..
when
a very dear collector purchased her..
and in fact, she had unknowingly been my muse
for the piece..

so I shared the
story with her as a private story...

it's amazing how like consciousness attracts..

My Lady

I always turn to thread and needles
during the winter months...
and in this case I decided to hide every stitch..
to use that as a metaphor for all the selfless things that
mothers do ..
I was motivated to use scraps of fabric, ribbons and cloth that
I dyed and gilded with gold flakes..
to represent the way motherhood often pieces things together..
the substrate is very heavy Khadi paper cut into rounds..
formed from rags
and

elevated to art...

When I began to assemble this piece,
it came together quickly as if all the pieces knew immediately where they
were going...
It wasn't until I had finished it that
I noticed the little
angel

praying just to her right..
it had just seemed the perfect piece due to the contrast..

but as I looked at it
I realized that
this madonna was the one that needed the prayers..

needed an angel to watch over her..

this mother did not find mothering easy.
perhaps she...
dealt with a sick child,
suffered the loss of a child,
couldn't bear a child

the word,  "human"
appeared in the collage..
and I realized..
that she is only human
after all..

you can find her
in the

  gallerie

I will be back soon with the last Roundel..
until then..
