Mixed Media Flower Journal

Forgive me,

I know I always post on

but yesterday was my birthday...

so I took the day off
well, not exactly..

because I went to the studio to work on this..
my themed

you may remember the little hand tied journal I made..
and if not, just click the link above..

and as often happens,
the intention I have for a project....
does not seem to be the intention
the project has for itself..
at least part of my intention
does not match..
I am still negotiation color choices..

Part of my
intention was to journal write the importance that flowers have always had in my life..

as a young child, I remember falling in love with a sunflower..
pulling it out of the ground and
dragging it into the house roots, dirt clods and all ...
it was so beautiful and I wanted
to give it to my Mother....

She was aghast and far more concerned with the dirty floor...
 and from that incident..
I decided that she
  did not
love flowers...

in fact, I can never remember her buying a
single bouquet ..

I promised
that this year I would just post whatever is going on
in the studio...
so here it is..
bitty peeks into my small
themed journal..
and a snippet of memory from a five year old girl child.

The photo below is not blurry...
it is the opening cover art,
through the parchment frontispiece

I am planning to submit the journal
but I am NOT thinking I will meet
the current deadline that I have made for myself, because
I keep ripping up..
the images that I create and
many things just don't seem to want to live there..

dear reader
I have decided to give myself more time...
as I work out
outside of my control
and allow what will be to
manifest ..

I am in love with the textures,
and this year I want to take more time
to develop more fully
my ideas..
and my work.

In the studio I am prepping for a new video
on my
tissue paper technique
that I used
to make the sheer butterflies in
my Naturalists' Notebook

I am also working on my January Pages
in my new 2018 art journal..

and contemplating some new portraits..
and you will definitely be in the loop..

Ciao, ciao!

Beautiful work.... and happy birthday - It was my mom's birthday the day before yours (and my sister's on the same day as yours) and she loves flowers so I made her a collaged bouquet so no fresh ones were available. And what a gift to yourself - the gift of time! Best wishes for a wonderful and creative year.

As always I love looking at your work- beautiful words and art. Flowers and plants have been important to me for a very long time- When Ron and I lived in Minneapolis we tilled up our whole yard and instead of grass we had trees shrubs and Perennials-

Happy belated birthday. Happy, happy.

Sometimes art has a way of taking its own direction. I never would have believed that had it not happened to me several times. I admire the fact that you decided to allow the time you need to create your book the way it needs to be, rather than the way you thought it would be when you first envisioned it. The images I see right now are surprisingly beautiful.

Happy Birthday Caterina!
What a lovely memory - ♥♥♥
you do right to give yourself the time that is needed - I often would need so much more time for my projects to live in the moment and enjoy every little scrap of the day!
I am looking forward to your art adventures this year!I love that you share your art with us !♥♥♥

Happy Birthday! I'm a fellow January birthday girl too - Wednesday next week.

I've been inspired by your paper collage, but so far I've only posted pictures to my Pinterest board. I usually work in fabric, some paper and photos and will probably approach the paper collage in baby steps.

My first "romance" with a flower was the Daffodil. Around age 5 or 6, I thought I had discovered the most beautiful and perfect flower.

Belated birthday blessings. Following your heart and your instinct will surely result in a very beautiful flower journal.

Hi Kim, thank you and so nice to know that your Sis and I share the same birthdays and of course she loves flowers!! How cool that your Mum and Sis are sharing birthdays right next to each other!! That should make for lots of celebration!! Yes, I took time to just play all day and it was lovely!! xo

Oh, Terry, you and your hubby are so clever, I bet it was the best yard on the block!! I would love to convince Don to rip up the grass, but he is a midwesterner at heart.. a dedicated grass guy!! Thanks for leaving a comment, dear one!! xox

Hi Dr. E. being patient with art is not something that comes naturally to me, I suppose it is a very bad hold over from business training and working on deadlines as a training coordinator!! I am going to let that go this year!! Thanks so much for your awesome support!! x
