I recently had a conversation with someone
about
making a career of art..
and I told her that I do not view this as a career..
I see it as a calling..
a way of life..
an expression of my soul..

Give yourself permission to speak your own language... |
my best advice to beginning and emerging artists..
speak with your own voice...
find your own language
and speak it..
Ingredients: underpainting, green acrylic paints, collage, decollage, paper ephemera, walnut ink, acrylic paint, H2O's, dendritic print, pencil, china marker.
and be totally unconcerned with the art language of others..
as we know comparisons are odious..

Susi, thank you so very much!
.. tout le monde sait lire..le langage de l'intérieur...des mains et du coeur... bises
I agree! It is a calling. And sadly it is very difficult to make a living from art. And your collages are beautiful as usual.
oh yes! how very true! Thank you for sharing the beauty you create!
Lovely atmosphere in these pages. :)
A Calling. Yes. The worst is when others call it a hobby. I want to scream. You are always inspiring.....
Perfect. xox
I agree, Roberta - it is NOT a hobby, it is a calling, and can be a career. But we do it because that is who we are.
Cat, your pages are lovely and so emotionally touching to me. I love what you say about art being a calling. I remember explaining my weird eyes to someone (I had ambliopia, and have always been farsighted, which makes it impossible to fully correct my vision), and the person asked me why I would become an artist if I had problems with my eyes. I just started laughing at the assumption that it was a CHOICE... as Lady Gaga sang, I was born this way!
I know if I had to support myself with my art, I would starve, because I have yet to find my voice. I think you have found yours and done so with the most beautiful art that people actually pay to see, read, and purchase. I'm in awe.
Mon cher Elfi, beaucoup d'autres luttent ici. Ils copient d'autres artistes et ils semblent avoir du mal à s'exprimer. Xox
Hi Pamela, it IS a calling and many people I know are making a living at it, and before I retired, I did too, now I have time to do exactly what I want and determine what I want to create financially... it is just a game that needs to be learned... X
Kim, thanks so much for stopping by and weighing in!! xo
Thanks, Val, I appreciate that! xo
Hi Roberta, many people do not understand the difference, sad but true!! thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, I so appreciate your remarks!
Thanks Corrine! :) xox
Dear Sharmon, we were all born this way, one way or another, right? Love what your eyes see, and some of my favorite works of Monet were created when his sight was going... just perfect in my view!! xox
E, I think that our attention and intention changes through the years, but certainly if you decided to make a living at it, you could do that ... so many do, but I am glad that I have a gallery that keeps me busy and it is just perfect for me right now!! thank you, dear friend! x
what an amazing post; following you is priceless.. you are so generous.. caterina giglio.
Oh Cat, your spread is beautiful, so rich in tones of green and brown, which I love, and you are so right, that creating is something life demands , from such, as us ! we just can`t stop.
And only if finding one self, it would be called art, I agree !! Hugs, Dorthe
Lana, thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind remarks and your support! xo
Yes, Dear Dorthe, we cannot stop, it squirts out doesn't it? thanks for the lovely comments and for stopping by!! xoxox
