August Art Journal Pages and a Fall Break

Summer is definitely at an end...
and
August was a wild month..

another month of
transitions and transformations..
we even had a
hurricane to contend with..
but fortunately it passed over us with
just rain..
and maybe a bit of anxiety...

we had a lot of rain this year..
so
butterfly and dragonfly
were my faithful companions..
so I had to share
them with you
and in my pages..

I learned a lot about both of them
this summer..

as I accept the changes that I make
about myself and what I want to
create
both personally and professionally..

The substrate for the butterfly is white tissue paper
and I treated the back with gel medium,
then I drew the butterfly on the paper with Inktense water color pencils
it worked quite well
and I only wish you could see and feel it in person..

Ingredients: Acrylic paint, Inktense Pencils, pencil, pen and ink on gelli prints, wrapping papers, rub on transfers, transfers on paper, walnut ink. Butterfly in Inktense Watercolor pencils on tissue paper.

and we are off to visit family
so I will take a little blog
break...

as always,
I am grateful for your
readership..
and finding your sweet comments
is my one weakness..

Wow, and I thought you drew great lilies. Your dragonfly is superb.

Enjoy your time away with family. It's what is important. We'll be here when you return.

The Butterfly and dragonfly always represent transformation and trancendence for me. The bittersweet end of summer is what your pages seem to speak of. Emotion always seems to be at the forefront of your work, and I love that.

Beautiful. The morning I was packing up my car to drive away, leaving my youngest son at college, I spotted a dragonfly on the ground. A symbol of the change that is taking place in our lives. Have a good trip.

I can almost feel the softness and handmade paper-feel from the way you treated the tissue before painting, dear Cat. It almost show the dust on the wings, so beautiful, and lifelike. You are lucky to have had so many special visitors. Here it has been dry, on the island-opposite the rest of Denmark, which also had lots of water coming.
Have a wonderful time with your family, my dear, I hope to soon be fully back ,blogging again . Love,-Dorthe

I so love your work - the bits of beautiful paper and fabric, flowers, and the muted colors. I try to use more colors- seeing so much wild colored art journal work out there - it's great, just not me.
Your work is peaceful and serene and I love it. Have a good break .

I wonder if your mixed-media collage is to hide personal journaling. I love this concept but I'm loathe to do it myself because sometimes I go back thru what I've written to remember. I love your work.

Sharmon, you are so right, I cannot keep emotion out of my pages, and yes, butterflies and moths and dragonflies all represent transformation and transcendence to me as well, they bring growth, and ultimately freedom.. xo

Hi Kim, yes it was harrowing for a bit... and just north of us, the manatees were pushed 10 miles into a golf course and had to be rescued, it was quite a surge just north of us.. thanks for stopping by! x

Hi Deb, yes, I agree, wild colors are just not me, I prefer a subtle palette too, thanks so much and especially for stopping by and leaving a comment!

You are so right, Cheryl, I obscure the text with the images, which spark my memory, I also leave just enough writing to remind myself about the month, and the image is designed to tell the story. I did not grow up in a trusting environment, so it is a way to create safety in journaling...Thank you so much.. I really appreciate your kind words..
