decollage

it seems I do a lot of ripping and tearing
in the studio..
decollage

gluing things down and then
realizing that it does not have that atmospheric effect I want...

I tear it off and paint over...

tissue paper butterflies that I copied from an old book on butterflies.. dryer sheets and old book binding

for this new show, I will be using wings of all sorts...
and creating my own wings, some will be hand stitched..
or gilded
but all will represent freedom...

flight and moving to a higher, broader consciousness..

wing bits and old papers..

On my walk yesterday, I found these lacy skeletonized leaves..
which looked like wings to me...

and I just started on some tiny canvas, above and below..
the base coats... just  wips but after four layers..
I am happy with where it is going..

Paint and walnut ink, collage, decollage, and transfers on canvas..

and digging through my stash has been fun and disconcerting..
I have quite an unorganized mess..
so that will change in a larger studio
with a big walk in closet..

It is hard to believe that it is Friday again!
time just flies when you are packing boxes...
making art and sorting life and memories...

I think I will put my feet up early tonight
and have a glass of Cabernet
my one weakness you know..

back to the studio...

C4N!

This series is going to be beautiful, Cat. I love the whisper lightness of the wings and the leaves mixed with the paper, etc.
Did I miss something along the way? You are packing. Are you moving again?

I've been trying to catch up, and I like the new theme you are starting to work with. I'm sure this one will be another hit, because the sneak peeks you are giving us are all really making me eager to see more. You always make me feel ready to jump in, once I have seen all the beautiful things you create.

Packing and creating all at once? You are a SUPERWOMAN!!

Well I for one just adore your bits and bobs of torn paper, I can almost say that torn paper is just about the best thing EVER! It makes my heart palpitate! The skeleton leaves are so fantastic and the direction you are going is shear brilliant!

Beautiful wips, Cat, and you can't go wrong with that theme - so much room for exploration, the sky's the limit (pun kind of intended)!

Wings...we all need them don't we to help us along the way in life!
Wonderful that you are balancing packing with making lovely art...whenever I start digging through boxes and stacks of things I get so inspired by all the treasures that I uncover...
Focus might be a good word for me in 2015 ;-)
Hope you had a restful weekend...
Stay cool!

Donna, thank you, I am intrigued by all the many directions.. wine was great!!

Jayne, you got that right... why limit them eh?

Caterina Giglio said...

Thank you dear Dorthe, yes, TEMPUS FUGIT, especially as we age.. so happy that you are interested in the new work, hoping to have some pieces finished before we move... Summer makes it tough... so much fun to have.

E, well, when I get stuck on a piece, I pack a few books or towels and then go back to the studio... using it as a break in between canvas drying and listening to the new work! Glad you like where it is all going... hope to have some small minis finished soon!

Sharon, thank you, my new direction will certainly keep me busy.. so much to consider with this topic.. thanks for stopping by, hope all is well with you dear! xox

I agree Sharmon and I felt people would respond to it as well, we all wish for freedom from something at some point in our lives... xo

oh Patty, isn't that the truth? I always feel so inspired by digging into an old box or carton of papers. It is one of my go to exercises for when I feel stuck or unmotivated.. Focus is a great word. I may need that too, with so many things to do in a new house! xoxx
