mission style

it was a grey and chilly day...
but that did not curb our enthusiasm...
we had to stop
in San Diego
to visit family...
and we spent the day

click the link above for a listing of all the
museums
if you have never been...
put it on your bucket list...

although I missed the sunshine,

the park was still beautiful....

the architecture is stunning...
and so romantic

 the buildings were originally
made in 1915 for the Panama Exposition

a close up of the flowering trees...
so beautiful and fragrant...

we strolled the grounds...

and headed for the

Botanical Gardens

housed in this amazing building...

the inside of the pavilion...
which is open
and loaded with orchids and shade plants and flowers...

so for everyone still getting snow...

spring is truly on its way...

one more collection of photos
from wine country to share...

and then I will have February pages to show you...
hope you enjoyed the tour...

I can envision you in these surroundings and can only imagine the inspiration you have drawn from them.
I have never been to San Diego but have no real good excuse anymore since it's little more than a full days drive from here. I will put it on my bucket list for sure.

I love gardens with conservatory buildings--the San Francisco Botanical Garden didn't have one of those, but they did have a gorgeous magnolia collection in bloom, which I enjoyed thoroughly. Which seems so long ago today, as I watch the sleet freeze on my deck....

When my husband and I were in California approx. 8 years ago - we spent two weeks out there. San Francisco and San Diego were my favorites. These are beautiful photos and bring back wonderful memories! xxoo

As many times as I have been to Balboa Park (and it has been many), I never knew the buildings were made for the Panama Exposition. I always learn something new each time I visit. Thanks for the inspiration and knowledge.

Great photos, Cat, again full of memories for me. I have a photo of my son at 21 months old beside that fountain in Balboa Park, and I had completely forgotten about the Botanical Gardens- what a beautiful place!
