autumn in the forest

as I write this superstorm, Sandy
is flooding the east coast
and there are high wind and flooding advisories
as far west as Illinois and Wisconsin...

so this little post
has changed it's tone a bit...
but not much...
because, life is so precious
and yes... short...
and Autumn reminds us of that...
and to take time and enjoy the beauty...

Autumn in the forest
is a glorious time...
the light, and the shimmer of gold on green

apples are everywhere..

and the forest floor is as fascinating as the tree canopy...

“Fall has always been my favorite season.

The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if

nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.”

when I was a child growing up in Michigan,
I loved the fall...
I thought the trees secretly held parties while we were sleeping...
they would suddenly change colors as if they put on their party clothes and then...
when the party was over, they shook off their leaves and slept all winter...
their naked branches like arms reaching up to heaven...

my backyard forest...
and mums before the frost...

the winds are picking up and the leaves are blowing around
they are predicting 25 foot waves on Lake Michigan...
if that happens it will be a record and there will be flooding in
Chicago...

so..
wherever you are...
take good care of you and yours
be safe...
