casting stitches

well, dear readers,
I am off again to visit family in Chicago

but I wanted to leave you with a new post
the last component that I have been working on for my new show
this summer at EsScentuals...

so I will leave you with a smattering of tiny works...

I have been using stitches in my work since 2005 when I hosted my first
altered art book group...
at that time I used upholstery threads to stitch the page
and I loved the way it looked, the texture was outstanding and I was fascinated by the way I was able to create a mark without using a pen or paintbrush..

at Art Fest one of my instructors commented on my stitches calling them "random"
I explained that they were anything BUT random, they were placed
strategically to create

movement ...

or represent solidity...

or attachment...

and even starlight...

stitching is ...
it seems, highly undervalued...
and misunderstood..

these little pieces will marry the marks on paper
and the Italian collage...
on the gallery wraps that I am
creating for the new show..

sending you high hopes for a splendid weekend
and week ahead..
